This is the first volume of the Harvard Chinese Language Series for heritage students. It is designed for heritage-track students who have varying degrees of aural-oral proficiency but lacks in reading and writing skills. The volume covers topics related to common daily-life situations in a college setting, introducing relevant functional language throughout. The text follows a storyline with several fictional characters representing various backgrounds and ethnicities of learners of Chinese, including a second generation Chinese American from Beijing, third generation Singaporean American, multiracial Chinese American who is part Chinese (Hong Kong) and part white, Chinese from mainland China and Taiwan, and learners of non-Chinese descent (African American, white, and Korean).
